hello
I’m Adyson Layne, founder of Lens Flares.
My love for telling stories started when I was young, making up plays in a basement with friends. We’d write a script, film our scenes on a video camera and convert the footage to a CD - which I still hold onto today! Over the years, I fed my passion for film and content creation through various camcorders, polaroids, point and shoot, and DSLR cameras. Most often drawn to vintage film photography and videography, Super 8 was repeatedly in my periphery.
In my adult life, I rediscovered this type of storytelling when I began filming trips and vacations. It reinvigorated my love for capturing the world through the lens of a camera and helped me realize I want to take my skills a step further. Super 8 was what I was working towards stylistically so after finally acquiring one, I knew I wanted to tell stories through that vintage lens.
With a degree in marketing and several years of corporate experience in the entertainment industry, my career has been focused on intertwining business and art. That’s how LFM was formed.
Based in New York City but available worldwide.
why super 8?
My soft spot in photography and videography is film. Super 8 specifically calls to me with its naturally grainy and ethereal qualities. I will always admire ts ability to capture a moment in time and memorialize it into something that evokes a feeling from a certain time.
8mm film seems to speak from moments of the past, offering soft tones and an unpolished charm that feels like a home movie. In my opinion, it thrives on the small in-between moments. Unlike digital, the raw footage is not undermined, but rather a crucial part of the overall end result. While filming, the footage is defined by the time constraints of a single roll of film. Some may see that as a challenge, but I see it as an opportunity - to tell an authentic story with intention and thought.
Building trust in organically capturing a moment, day or feeling has been such a pleasure in my life and that’s why I am here. I want to share that exact feeling with you too.
my approach
I strive to tell stories as real as the people or products in front of the camera.
Specializing in documentary-style videos, I capture moments as they naturally unfold, creating a story personal to you. I embrace the big, the small and the in-between, frame-by-frame.
Through the imperfectly perfect lens of a Super 8 video camera, I reintroduce a vintage aesthetic with a timeless, unscripted feel. My goal is to transport you back to a moment, scene, or feeling.
A Lens Flares film is one of nostalgia, originality, and a summary of a moment in time.
